Poznan shortlisted for hosting the UITP Global Summit 2021
The City of Poznan, Poznan International Fair and the Poznan Municipal Transport Company Ltd. (MPK) have undertaken joint efforts to bid for the Global Public Transport Summit in 2021. Their initial offer has met with the International Association's of Public Transport (UITP's) approval, and Poznan, the only Polish city, has been selected as the event's potential host. The short list of candidates includes also three other destinations: Melbourne, Moscow and Hamburg.
The UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes. It unites members from 96 countries, who represent a total of 1,400 companies (19 from Poland) and 18,000 individuals. The association is internationally recognised for its work in advancing the development of sustainable urban mobility.
The International Association of Public Transport has gathered during the biennial Global Public Transport Summit since 1886. The meeting lasts usually 3 or 4 days and combines a congress and an exhibition. Next UITP's Summit takes place in Montreal, from May 15th to 17th, 2017. According to information available in the ICCA database (2017), the organisers expect up to 5000 participants.
The Global Public Transport Summit's 2021 official host will be announced in 2018.
